Eagle Farm R6#3 BAY STAR
In my opinion finds herself in an easier Class 3 race than last start at this track given that the winner Miss Leibert has since won a Metro race at this track on Saturday. She had on luck in that race being 3 wide the trip and in reality the 1400m was probably 200m further than her best so back to 1200m here suits. Even better she drops in weight so she only really needs to have maintained her recent good form to be a really good winning chance today. She gets on or near the pace which is nearly always an asset when investing on our four legged friends. $5 on Sportsbet last night seemed pretty reasonable value to me as I think she might start as short as $3.50.
Canterbury R7#12 SMART MOOCHI
Was an RTP selection first up at Scone last May and probably would have won the race, but for having to avoid a horse on it’s inside once or twice in the straight. He looked to have no earthly chance of running a place with 300m to go but absolutely sprouted wings the last 100m to nearly run down the leader. Mysteriously his form tapered off after than though his 2nd up performance when being beaten 2.5L wasn’t too bad. On debut this horse ran a very close 2nd with 59kg to That’s A Good Idea (57kg) and he had Photon Willie behind him, and the form out of that run at Scone first up last time ended up being pretty decent. We know he goes well first up and he only has 54kg today opposed to the 57kg and 59kg he has carried in the past. My only proviso with him is the track condition. He might not be any good on Slow or worse but I’m hoping that the fine weather forecast prevails, and the track gets back to a Dead 4 or 5. Given that I think he is sensational value at $16 and $4.80 (Sportsbet last night). He is a backmarker and will probably need luck but I can’t let him go around without me at that quote. EACH WAY.
Bendigo R8#6 SHE’S PRETENTIOUS
Is a pretty capable mare and was pretty unlucky not to win 2nd up at 1600m this track recently when she was the victim of a slowly run race. She was runner up there to a decent horse in Stradale who got a very soft lead up front but she did make significant ground up on him the last 50-100m. She seems very honest yet to miss a place in 5 starts (1 win,) and she did also run a nice second to a subsequent city winner called Moreau (beat Nautical at Caulfield) so the class here is no concern. The favourite only won a Maiden last start on the same day and track but carried more weight here so I’m very happy to invest on this mare at the $5.50 on offer last night on Tattsbet & Sportsbet WIN ONLY.
Ascot R7#4 HOLD THE MONEY
Has done us a couple of favours recently, with her trainer placing her to perfection in races on the WA provincial circuit. Although she comes to a Metro race this time, once again it would seem that she isn’t outgraded, and has every chance to go on her winning way. She didn’t have things go exactly to plan last time after having to cross from a wide alley early, and in fact she has had to overcome same at her last 3 starts. Today she has drawn ideally and her biggest asset is being able to take up a forward position and accelerate quickly. She has done so in her past 3 wins, and there aren’t too many horses that can win 3 on end after starting that sequence in a Maiden. As I have stated before the form around her is very solid (Vengabus, Crumpet O’Reilly) so there is no reason not to stick with her today. $5.50 on Sportsbet last night was really quite generous to my way of thinking WIN ONLY.
